We are beginning our first week of our second group. We have 17 people on the reconstruction team and now a new team of rapid responders arrived yesterday, bringing our group to 26. Right now we have the Regional Managers here so we are cooking for 28. This makes life interesting!!
The reconstruction crew is all working on one house for a family of 10 and it's supposed to be a complete makeover so the people are not to see what is going on. The local Interfaith group is using this as a promotion to help their cause for funding future projects. It's an 150 year old house with many possibilities and a LOT of work.I'll send some pictures next time.
The rapid responders are on their first day of work mucking out houses and sanitizing houses back in Bridge City.
One of the heart stories we heard from Pastor Buddy here at church was of a coffin that was found floating in the marsh. The funeral home called him and through serial numbers, it was traced to a town and family about 50 miles away in Louisiana. The family was very happy to get their family member's casket back. The wierd thing was- that it was lost in Hurricane Rita three years ago. So where it was, nobody knows!
Doug & Dan were cleaning out Sea grass that was piled five feet high behind houses that were right by the levie. They were using the tractor and everyone kept saying, "watch for the snakes"! Well, they found some. Dan killed a water moccasin and Doug saw a big yellow 3 ft. 1 1/2" dia. one but that left before he killed it. There were turtles, snakes, fish and who knows what else in there. The salt water gets in their eyes and blinds them and they go crazy.
I guess thats all for now so I'll have pictures and write more later. Love to you all and please keep this work in your prayers! Dan, Gerda, Doug, & Mary
