Work Progress in Laurel

We have been working here in Laurel now for a week and a half and things are getting done. Tomorrow the crew will begin on the 5th house. some of the work is quite extensive and some is minor. Doug had to jack up a house and level it up and put new floor joistes in it before other work could be done on the rest of the house. Today he went across the road and tore off a roof of a porch and hopefully will replace it again in the next few days. I have been busy cooking along with a friend of mine, Marie. We worked together in Lake Okeechobee three years ago so it's fun to catch up with her. So far everybody says the food is good so we'll see if we can keep it up for another week and 1/2. We are starting to wash and pack away the things that are not being used so we get an early start on packing. We just found out that a new site will be opening up in Lake Charles, La. next Fall so most of these things will be stored and moved over there sometime in the summer. There will be some RV sites there as well so that will be good for us. To answer Randy's question- yes, these beds are way better than the cots in Franklinton. I think my back is still suffering from those. However, I do miss all of the other couples that slept in the same room with us, especially Ben, who would always go to bed the same time we would at night. (Earlier than everyone else, of course) The weather is beautiful!! We are loving the sunshine and all of the flowers, but I hear it's nice at home also. I'm sending pictures of houses that we are working on so you can see that we are really working and not just basking in the sun. We sure are having a good time though! Thanks for your prayers! Love, Doug & Mary

Mary,
I'm glad the beds are better than the cots. I talked with Sharon in Franklinton and she mentioned that Joe had the pain pump put in. The pain was mostly gone. Now he has an infection in one of the incisions and they are afraid the pump may have to come out. Pray for Joe and Sharon. They are using some of our donation to build a ramp for another person similar to the one we built for the Pavalini's. Cosuela says Hi and Thank You very much. Are you going to make Jumbolia for the crew? We are praying for you guys to. See you when you get home.

Hi Mom and Dad,

Nice pictures. It is good to see all the hard work you are doing. The picture of dad looks like he is a little hot and tuckered out. Must be he is working hard. Glad to hear everybody likes your cooking. Like you said at home, you either like what you make or you starve. My guess is nobody is starving. Well, make sure you finish up this week and have a safe trip home. We will see you Sunday.

Love,

John
